Alfonso Alonso

Alfonso Alonso served as Minister of Health, Social Services and Equality during Mariano Rajoy’s government, where he managed major challenges such as the Ebola crisis and the implementation of Spain’s National Strategy for the eradication of Hepatitis C.

Between 1999 and 2007, he was Mayor of Vitoria-Gasteiz, where he chaired the Environment Commission of the Spanish Federation of Municipalities and Provinces.

Alonso later served as spokesperson for the Popular Parliamentary Group in the Spanish Congress. Holding degrees in Law and Philology, he brings extensive experience in public policy design, institutional leadership and stakeholder engagement.
